1. General description

SCU-LAN10 YAESU is an Android app for remote control of compatible radios through SCU-LAN10. It manages RX/TX audio, PTT, frequency, modes, VFO, split, memories, spectrum/waterfall, S-meter, SWR, ALC and the main radio commands. It can be used on a local network or remotely with router and DDNS configuration.

2. Requirements

Compatible radio, currently FTDX-10 and FT-710, configured SCU-LAN10, Android phone with microphone permission, stable connection, local IP address or DDNS, and UDP Control, CAT, Audio and Scope ports. The usual ports are 50000, 50001, 50002 and 50003.

3. Connection Setup

The main profiles are FTDX-10 and FT-710. Radio 3 and Radio 4 remain available for future development. Enter Transceiver, User, Password, Remote Address and Control/CAT/Audio/Scope ports. Audio Quality is fixed to PCM (48 kHz). Apply saves, OK saves and returns to the radio screen, and Cancel discards changes. HELP opens this manual also from Connection Setup.

4. Remote setup: router and DDNS

Assign a fixed IP address or DHCP reservation to the SCU-LAN10. Forward the UDP ports used by the equipment to that IP address. If the public IP changes, use DDNS. If connection fails, check firewall, NAT, double NAT and CGNAT. Avoid DMZ unless it is really needed.

5. First connection

Press Connect. Audio, CAT and scope start after connection. The app reads and reapplies supported values such as Step, Mic level, RPORT, phone volume, Radio ON/OFF, RF Gain, scope speed and the state of some radio commands. On connection, the app opens the squelch to zero.

6. Frequency, VFO, modes and split

Tap the frequency to enter it manually. Use the arrows with Step; holding them changes frequency quickly. Drag spectrum/waterfall left to decrease frequency and right to increase it. A/B changes VFO. The app reads frequency, VFO and mode from the radio when possible. Split ON transmits on VFO B and Split OFF transmits on VFO A; when Split is active the secondary frequency is red and larger.

7. PTT, microphone and audio

MIC ON enables the phone microphone. PTT transmits; releasing returns to receive. The phone volume slider controls the audio heard on the phone. Radio ON/OFF controls radio-side audio. The FT-710 profile uses dedicated corrections to make the phone audio level more suitable.

8. RF Power, ALC and SWR

RF Power controls radio output power and shows the value read from the radio. In AM the scale reaches 25 W. Long press the RF Power area to show ALC; long press the ALC bar to return to RF Power. The ALC bar is white in the normal area and turns red from the warning point onward. SWR shows standing wave ratio during transmit, with the final reference as infinity.

9. Main radio commands

Tune reads and controls the tuner; on the FT-710 profile a long press sends the dedicated tuning command. RPORT adjusts audio gains toward the radio for SSB, AM, FM and PSK/DATA and saves the values. RF controls RF Gain. R.FIL selects the filter. SQL, AGC, P.Amp, AMC, ATT, NB and NR control radio functions.

10. P.Amp, NB and NR/DNR

P.Amp lets you choose IPO, AMP1 and AMP2 as on the radio. NB toggles with a tap and a long press adjusts level from 0 to 10. NR toggles DNR with a tap; a long press adjusts level from 1 to 15 in supported modes: SSB, CW, DATA-U and DATA-L.

11. DSP: NOTCH, CONTOUR and WIDTH

The scroll bar contains NOTCH, CONT and WIDTH. Each button shows the current value below its name and turns blue when the function is active. A short tap enables or disables the function. A long press, about one second, opens the adjustment slider.

12. Manual NOTCH

NOTCH uses the radio Manual Notch. Adjustment goes from 10 Hz to 3200 Hz with 10 Hz steps. When enabled, the app sends ON and applies the selected value. When disabled, it sends OFF.

13. CONTOUR

CONT controls radio CONTOUR. Adjustment goes from 10 Hz to 3150 Hz with 50 Hz steps. The button shows the current value and turns blue when CONTOUR is active.

14. WIDTH

WIDTH adjusts the filter width shown in the app in Hz. The visible scale goes from 300 Hz to 4000 Hz with 100 Hz steps. Internally the app converts this value into the radio CAT SH command. A short tap enables or disables WIDTH; a long press adjusts the value.

15. Memories

MEM opens the memory list. For FTDX-10 and FT-710, perform the first read while the phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the SCU-LAN10. The app saves the list and reuses it on remote connections. If “No valid memories” appears remotely, return once to the local network and press MEM again. Repeat the local read after changing radio memories. Selecting a memory recalls the corresponding frequency on the radio.

16. Spectrum and waterfall

Spectrum shows the instant trace, Waterfall shows signal history. Span changes width. Set adjusts waterfall speed, Peak Hold, LEVEL Spectrum and TX S-meter peaks. Scope speed uses radio values SLOW1, SLOW2, FAST1, FAST2 and FAST3 when supported. LEVEL Spectrum changes the radio REF level; 50 means 0.0 dB, lower values are negative and higher values are positive.

17. S-meter and measurements

The S-meter scale shows S1-S9 and references above S9, including +10, +20, +30, +40, +50 and +60. SWR and ALC are shown during transmit when radio meter packets are available.

18. Appearance and saving

Setup Negative and Main Negative invert colors; pressing again returns to normal. Disconnect saves local settings and supported values. On the next connection the app tries to reapply them to the radio.

19. SSTV — encoder and decoder

Open SSTV only after connecting to the radio. RADIO returns to normal controls, RX DECODER receives, and TX ENCODER prepares and sends an image. While SSTV is open the app temporarily applies the dedicated DATA path and restores the previous mode and values when leaving.

For reception, choose a frequency, leave AUTO enabled for VIS recognition, or select a mode manually. The initial VIS identifies Robot, Martin, Scottie or PD. AUTO also rearms reception for the next image. CLEAR resets, SCALE fits the view and SAVE makes a manual copy. Complete images are saved automatically in Gallery › Pictures › SCU LAN Remote › SSTV. A final CWID is decoded when present.

REPLY/QSL prepares a reply containing a thumbnail of the latest received image. In TX choose the image and mode, enter callsign and locator, then add optional text. Color, transparency, size, position, border and shadow are adjustable for each text item. Check preview and level, then press TRANSMIT SSTV. The sequence includes VIS, image and final CWID when a callsign is set. STOP interrupts and returns the radio to RX.

Use moderate power and low ALC. Check the radio TX time limit for long modes. An unstable network can cause shifted lines or loss of synchronization.

20. FT8 / FT4

Open FT8/FT4 after connecting. The app starts clock synchronization immediately; keep Android automatic date and time enabled and use SYNC when needed. FT8 uses 15-second slots and FT4 uses 7.5-second slots. The bar is green in RX and Ferrari red in TX.

Use the menu to enter callsign and locator, select automatic or manual RX/TX audio frequencies, and manage log.adi. Select FT8 or FT4 and a band frequency. Decoded rows show UTC, SNR, DT, audio frequency, message and country. JTDX-like colors identify worked stations, new countries, new country on band/mode, new callsigns and new callsign on band/mode. A callsign already worked on the current band has the whole row struck through. Colors can be changed from Color Meaning.

Tap a CQ or any station at any time: the call remains queued and starts in the first correct TX slot. AUTO CQ starts automatic calling, TX ONCE sends the manual text once, and STOP halts TX. The automatic sequence handles call, locator, report, R-report, RRR/RR73 and 73. The lower panel shows transmitted messages and calls addressed to your callsign.

The internal ADIF log records completed QSOs. VIEW .ADI LOG displays it, LOAD .ADI LOG imports or replaces data, and EXPORT .ADI LOG saves the file to a chosen location.

21. RTTY

Open RTTY after connecting. Select BAUD, SHIFT and MARK/SPACE tones; NORMAL/REVERSE corrects polarity. Press AUTO 4 s while actual RTTY characters are being transmitted, not during silence, pauses or a steady carrier. The app analyzes four seconds without changing the radio frequency and automatically applies baud, shift, NORMAL/REVERSE and the audio center frequency. It then shows confidence and detected values. If the signal is not recognized, retry on a clean section of text without retuning. CENTER RX also measures for four seconds but additionally corrects the radio frequency. The crossed tuner helps align both tones; DATA opens callsign/locator/city, and STEP changes the tuning step.

Amateur presets use DATA-U. Commercial and DWD services are marked receive only, including DWD Pinneberg DDK9 on 10.099040 MHz USB. The tuning wheel changes frequency with the selected step. Received text appears in RX and CLEAR RX resets it.

For transmit, enter station data, type text or use prepared memories. The received callsign and your callsign are inserted where required. TRANSMIT RTTY starts and STOP returns to RX. Never transmit on presets marked receive only.

22. CW

Open CW after connecting. The decoder estimates received speed automatically. The monitor shows how close the signal is to the selected tone, normally 700 Hz. CENTER tunes the radio to the tone, DATA opens callsign/locator/city, STEP changes the tuning step, and the wheel provides fine tuning.

TONE selects the reference audio frequency and TX SPEED selects transmit WPM. Type text or use prepared memories, which can insert the correspondent’s callsign and your callsign. TRANSMIT CW sends the text and STOP returns to receive.

For reliable decoding, use a clean signal and tune until the monitor is centered. Unstable speed, noise or overlapping signals can produce wrong characters.

23. Saving the manual as PDF

In the app, open the manual in the required language and press SAVE PDF. In the Android print window choose “Save as PDF”, then select a name and folder. The manual is formatted as A4 and kept in Unicode, including Japanese and Chinese.

24. Troubleshooting

No connection: check address, ports, credentials, firewall, router, double NAT and CGNAT.

No audio: check SQL, Radio ON/OFF, phone volume, microphone permissions and network.

Wrong mode/VFO: check CAT commands and radio state.

Distorted TX: check Mic level, RPORT, AMC and levels. If a DSP command has no effect, verify that the function is supported in the selected radio mode.

25. Privacy and security

The app uses the network and microphone for radio control and audio. Connection profiles are saved locally on the phone. See the Privacy Policy for details about microphone, network and local storage use.
